Most fans of astrology are unaware of how closely astrology is tied to numerology. Not even all tarot card readers are aware of the astrological significance of each of the cards in their tarot deck.
The signs of the zodiac are each 30 degrees. There are twelve of them. Twelve times 30 equals the 360 degrees of a circle.
Each of the astrological signs is further divided into thirds called decans. A decan is ten degrees. Each of the decans correspond to at least one tarot card from the Minor Arcana. The Minor Arcana later became what we know today as playing cards.
In the case of cardinal signs, which are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, each decan corresponds to both a suit card and a royalty card. For instance, the first ten degrees of the sign of Aries, which is the first decan of Aries, corresponds to the 2 of Wands card and the King of Wands card.
A tarot deck is divided into two parts called Arcana’s. The first part is the Major Arcana and it consists of 22 cards. The second part is the Minor Arcana and it consists of 56 cards. The Minor Arcana is comprised of four suits representing the four elements of fire, water, air and earth. The fire suit is called Wands (like kindling). The water suit is called Cups (vessels for the water). The Air suit is called Swords (a sword slices air). And the earth suit is called Coins or Pentacles (valuable metal from the earth).
When religious leaders decided the tarot decks were to powerful to be in the hands of lay people, they removed the Major Arcana from the decks and changed the Minor Arcana into a deck to be used for playing card games. Wands became clubs. Cups became Hearts. Swords became Spades. Pentacles became Diamonds. The good townsfolk were pleased with this new form of recreation and soon forgot about the Tarot and its powerful Major Arcana. The Major Arcana This is why a tarot reading is really an astrology tarot reading.
The 22 cards of the Major Arcana provide keys or insights into the planets and their signs. An expert tarot card reader can interpret the cards much in the same way an astrologer interprets a birth chart.
The information gathered from the tarot cards can give a person insight into their nature. Astrology tarot reading can help you to spot self-imposed limitations and neglected talents and opportunities.
A typical astrological tarot reading begins when the querent, the person who is seeking answers, shuffles the deck, focuses on the question and then intuitively chooses cards while they are all face down. As these cards are selected, the querent hands the cards to the tarot reader who places them face up on the table in a pattern that is called a tarot spread. The tarot reader selects the best spread for the question the querent is asking.
